How do I solve the first puzzle in Training Day?

Training Day is Tynker's simplest immersive Minecraft course, focusing on changing Skins, Items, and simplified coding with Minecraft Mobs. (Looking for a full Minecraft modding course? Start with Agent Recall or Mind Crafters instead.)

Login at Tynker and start the course. Visit Zone 1-1 to download the world. Then find your .mcworld file and Import it into Minecraft.

Once you have your Minecraft world loaded, you'll find yourself in the Library of Life. Watch Codey's introduction to the course within Tynker.

Back inside Minecraft, take your first left while exploring the library to find a grassy area. To enter the first world, jump inside the portal!

Step 1: Custom Skins!

First up, you will paint a skin for yourself and try changing the look of some NPCs.

Customize your Minecraft character using Tynker's Skins Editor, then save it. Then continue and make 3 more skins for each NPC character, too. Save each file as you go. (iPad users' skins and resources are saved automatically.)

Step 2: Load the Assets

Load the Skin and the .mcaddons in Minecraft. Then Edit Your World to enable these addon files. You might see something like this, if you've activated them correctly. After making sure all your new resources are loaded, press Play and re-enter the Minecraft world.

Step 3: Preview in Staging Area

Continue in Minecraft. Enter the Staging Area if you haven't already: you should previews of your new NPCs or Skins.

Step 4: Start the Show

Finally, progress in the Minecraft world until you see a large Stage with seating. Click the button that reads "Start Fashion Show" and the audience will appreciate all your hard work. When the show is over, proceed to the floating orange book. You'll be transported to the main lobby, where you can place the orange book on the orange lectern.

Step 5: Next World

Within Minecraft, proceed to Zone 2: Mountain Resort — and drop on in!

You'll need to continue this process of loading mcaddon files, activating your new resources, and restarting Minecraft to progress through the rest of Training Day. Start Training Day module 2 in Tynker and start editing blocks!

Other Common Questions

How can I download the world again?

If at any point you need a new copy of the world, you can redownload it by revisiting Zone 1-1 through Tynker.

I'm stuck. Can I skip a puzzle?

You can use the following command in the Minecraft chat to skip to the solution: /function test_complete

Is there an Answer Key?

Yes, parents can login to their Parent Dashboard and find the Answer Key section for the solutions to all puzzles and Tynker coursework. Note that many solutions for Training Day are illustrative only — there are no "wrong" ways to transform the look of your skins and items.

How can I fly around the world?

You can use the following command in the Minecraft chat to set the gamemode to creative: /gamemode creative. Creative mode allows you to fly around by double tapping the "jump" key. Return to the default mode by using the command /gamemode survival. WARNING: Creative mode also allows you to break any block, so we advise caution. If you break the world, remember you can redownload a new world by revisiting the first module of the course (Zone 1-1).

Is there any way to jump to a specific puzzle?

You can use the following command in Minecraft chat to skip to a specific puzzle: "/function quickstart/l3/a3" to go to zone 3, puzzle 3. We advise caution though, as this is a developer tool and may cause unexpected behavior…. or even "break" the world. If that happens, download a fresh copy of the world.
