Catie Cuan is an artist and a Robotics PhD Candidate at Stanford University. She considers herself a dancer, choreographer, and researcher, combining her passion for dance and STEM to teach robots how to dance! How cool is that?
Cierra McDonald is a Principal Programming Manager Lead at Microsoft where she’s a game developer for Xbox, designing the features for Xbox Live Achievements & Gamerscore systems.
While studying bioscience in university, Chantelle Bell, along with classmate Anya Roy, co-founded Syrona Women (later Syrona Health) after developing an innovative home device that lets women test themselves for cervical cancer.
For the last four years, Shannon Towey has been a Systems Engineer at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena California, where she works on web applications and data processing tools for the Mars 2020 rover mission.
Time Magazine named 15-year-old Gitanjali Rao its Kid of the Year for 2020. Time honored Gitanjali for “using technology to tackle issues ranging from contaminated drinking water to opioid addiction and cyberbullying.”
Andrea Ghez is the fourth woman to win the Nobel Prize in Physics. Andrea was recognized by the academy for her part in the discovery of a supermassive compact object at the center of our galaxy.
There is more work to do! In 1970, women made up 38% of all U.S. workers and 8% of STEM workers. By 2019, the STEM proportion had increased to 27% and women made up 48% of all workers.
We need to get more girls into STEM at an early age! Engaging in activities like coding can make a big difference and encourage girls to seek a career in STEM!
