Tynker’s Hour of Code is now available!

Tynker’s Hour of Code experience is here.

Tynker is proud to be a partner and curriculum provider for the Hour of Code 2013, the CSEdWeek and code.org nationwide initiative to introduce computer programming to children.

We are excited to share our tutorials with you. We’ve built a series of game and puzzle based programming activities, appropriate for beginner (grades 1 to 3) and intermediate (grades 4 to 8) level students, that teachers and parents can use to introduce computer programming to children.

Parents

Simply have your child go to www.tynker.com/hourofcode, select one of the activities and start programming!

Teachers

If you are a new teacher and have never used Tynker before, you can easily set up for Hour of Code in these 3 simple steps:

1. Register on Tynker, it’s Free  – Start here https://www.tynker.com/reg/school/sign-up

2. Create a classroom – Create one or more classrooms and select some of the Hour-of-Code activities for your students

3. Add student accounts – You can either create student accounts on Tynker, or pass the class code to your students if they already have school provided google login accounts

Existing teachers, add the Hour of Code lessons to your class using the “Add Lessons” option in the lesson plan tab of your classroom, and you should be all set.

 What’s in the hour of code?

Children can try any of Tynker’s 8 free Hour of Code tutorials:

• Puppy Adventure Mini—a Beginner coding puzzle;
• Maze Craze—a Beginner maze game; 
• Puppy Play Time—a free play activity for Beginners;
• Lost in Space—a Beginner coding puzzle;
• Sketch Racer—an Intermediate coding puzzle;
• Space Zombies—an Intermediate Build-a-Game tutorial;
• Puppy Adventure Complete—an Intermediate puzzle and debugging tutorial; and
• Math Art—an Intermediate tutorial to learn how to program to draw shapes.

With Tynker’s Hour of Code, it’s really easy to jump in and explore computer programming with no set up involved and no prior coding experience required. We’ve built these tutorials in an enjoyable and familiar context so programming is seen as fun, not so tough, and actually quite achievable! – kids get engrossed solving a beginner’s coding puzzle by helping Pixel get back to his family or writing code to help Snap draw complex mathematical shapes.

The activities introduce the basics of computer programming in a fun way. Concepts such as  sequencing, repetition, and conditional logic are gradually introduced in each activity. While there can be many correct solutions to a problem, students are encouraged to solve the puzzles using the least (optimal) number of blocks.

Did you know?

Each of our eight Hour of Code tutorials was built using the Tynker platform itself. Tynker’s powerful course creation system allows for building of instructional modules, including puzzles, interactive introductions, videos, projects, and quizzes, and stringing them together into a single, seamless experience.
