Our 2020 Summer Code Jam has come to an end (check out the winners here.) We’re so impressed with the tens of thousands of submissions from throughout the summer and so excited to talk to some of our winners about their awesome projects and experiences with Tynker!
Next up is Hasna, who won Tynker’s Summer Code Jam not once, not twice, but thrice in Weeks 2, 4 and 7! Hasna is a 12-year-old who comes to us from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia! Her hobbies include coding (naturally), plus drawing, ready and daydreaming!
How did you learn to use Tynker when you were first starting out? What are your favorite Tynker courses or tutorials? I see other people’s projects and I learned in Tynker courses too. My favorite courses are Toxic Jungle and Augmented Reality.
What is your favorite project you’ve made so far? What do you like about it? I think the photobooth one because that’s the time when I learned about augmented reality.
How do you get inspiration for your projects? Usually by my imagination and Tynker courses and challenges.
Why do you like to code? Because I can make most of the things in the computer, like games and animations!
What is your favorite way to use code? Do you have a favorite code block? I like to make games! My siblings like to play them.
What do you do with a project when you’re done with it? Do you debug it? Show it to someone? Publish it? I publish it and I hope that I have made a good project.
What are you planning to make next? I think I want to try to make a drawing tool.
What’s the best thing about Tynker? There are so many good courses in Tynker! And you can make Minecraft mods with Tynker! And skins, and mobs.
Do you think other kids should try coding? Why’s that? Yes! Because if they’re bored or they want to learn a new skill, coding is perfect because you can make games!
What advice would you give to kids starting out with Tynker? I think don’t get really disappointed if the project turns out that it didn’t work out the way you wanted it to be, because learning takes time.
How long did it take you to complete the project? I think it’s more than a day, two days or three days, I don’t really remember.
How did you feel when your parents told you that you won? I checked the winners button in the Code Jam and saw that I won. I am happy!
What do you want to do with your prize money? I think I’ll just use it when I need it.
Do you like to code and will you keep learning more about coding? Yes! I want to improve on many things.
