Students Learn Computer Programming Skills
Stephen Hawking said, “Whether you want to uncover the secrets of the universe, or you want to pursue a career in the 21st century, basic computer programming is an essential skill to learn.”
That’s why, for an entire week, Donald Elementary Library Media Specialist Kathy Hoffman devoted time to teach 1st-5th graders how to code using Tynker, an online resource for children to learn computer programming at their own pace with interactive learning modules, mini-games, coding projects and puzzles.
“The goal of my lesson was to get them excited about coding,” Hoffman said. “Our world is changing and the jobs these students might have in the future haven’t even been created yet.”
This was Hoffman’s first attempt to teach coding to most of the students in the school the same lesson in the same week.
Students welcomed the challenge to learn more about coding.
