Peep Is Coming to the Hour of Code!

Peep Is Coming to the Hour of Code!

We’re thrilled to announce a new partnership with public media leader WGBH Boston. Together we’re offering new tutorials for the Hour of Code based on the beloved characters Peep, Chirp, and Quack from the STEM-themed TV show Peep and the Big Wide World.

Early elementary students can learn to code with Peep as they build creative storytelling and animation projects such as Dance with Friends and Nature Walk. In these fun activities, students follow step-by-step instructions to program their own animated scenes.

NatureWalkCard
Nature Walk: In this tutorial, students create an animated scene where Peep explores the world around him as he goes on a nature walk. Students will use code to make different items show up or disappear depending on where Peep is walking. They can even make the items talk and add music to their scene! This activity teaches the basics of block coding, including how to sequence code blocks and how to use events to trigger code.
DanceWithFriendsCard
Dance with Friends: In this fun activity, students program an animated dancing scene using the characters from Peep and the Big Wide World. They’ll use costumes and delays to animate the birds one frame at a time. They can add their own backgrounds and music and even make Peep and his friends talk! As they code, they’ll learn about loops and frame-based animations.

If you’re using a desktop, laptop, or Chromebook computer, you can access these activities by clicking on the links provided. These activities come with audio instructions to help students who are early readers. If you’re using iPads  tablets, you can download the free Tynker app from the App Store and go to the “Hour of Code” section of the workshop. If you’re planning to use these activities with your students, make sure to check out our Peep Teacher Guide!

Thank you for joining us for an Hour of Code! We can’t wait to see what your students will create.
