Future Veterinarian Annette Loves the Tynker Community!

Meet Annette, a young coder and tennis star from Texas! She’s only eight years old but has already been playing tennis for four years. She’s in second grade and wants to be a veterinarian when she grows up because she loves animals. Which one is her favorite? A lion!

Even though she’s only been coding for a few months, her projects blew us away! Annette’s favorite subject is art, something she definitely incorporates into her impressive Tynker projects. We were lucky enough to chat with Annette and learn more about her and why she loves to code.

How did you feel when you found out your project had been featured? I was amazed!

How did you get introduced to Tynker? It was this new opening at my school and they liked to use Tynker. Only third graders get to do it but second graders got to try it out. We did the adventure project, then I asked my mom to download it for me! I’ve been using it for a couple months.

How did you learn how to use Tynker?  In the screen in the coding area, you know that hiding Codey that will help you out with blocks? I used him to help me a little bit. I also looked at other people’s projects a little bit.

How do you get inspiration for your projects? I just think really deep into my mind.

How do creativity and coding fit together for you? I like drawing my own characters and backgrounds – I do that almost every project.

Why do you like to code? It’s really fun!

What is your favorite project you’ve made so far? My favorite is the spin draw one.

What do you do with a project when you’re done with it? There’s something really cool I have here, one of the projects I made on Saturday. Now it has like 33 likes or something like that! I just put some of the Peep characters on it! I just hit that publish button! A few days later when I see there’s excitement on here I show it off.

What’s your favorite feature in Tynker? You can draw characters and backgrounds!

Do you look at the Tynker community projects? I like one that is Gem Hunter, it’s a project. You touch something and then the dirt starts cracking! You find gems, make sure all the dirt around it is gone, and then tap it again to get it.

Do you think other kids should try coding? Yeah, because I’m the only person who really knows how to code in my class – no one else really knows about coding!

What advice would you give to kids starting out with Tynker? Well, I am helping one person, one of my friends, because he made this project on a different coding app.

As we began to ask her mom questions, Annette piped in, “I’m going to go on Tynker!”

When we asked Yan, Annette’s mother, how she feels about her child learning to code, she said she’s “happy that she likes to do it!” In her words, “I know nothing about it – she showed me her projects and they’re amazing!”

Yan continued with, “She’s excited that she can show me and see how many people liked or viewed my project. I had no idea that she knew so much about it!”

She shared a great insight regarding the benefits of learning to code. “It helps them use their mind to think differently and do different things.” We couldn’t agree more – coding stretches kids’ imagination and capabilities!
