Future Artist Anna Considers Coding a Hobby!

8-year-old Anna lives and codes in Singapore with her sister Ariel, who we also interviewed! She told us she loves arts and crafts, drawing, coloring, coding, and building Lego Mindstorms. We’ve been really impressed with her projects, so we chatted with her to find out why she considers coding with Tynker one of her hobbies!

What do you want to be when you grow up? An artist.

How did you get introduced to Tynker? My father decided that he wanted me to do programming so when I grow up, I could be a smart girl.

Do you look at the Tynker community projects? Sometimes. I like the community projects because of the animations.

What’s your favorite feature in Tynker? The animations.

What are you planning to make next? I’m working on artificial intelligence. I will draw a person and make it ask the user something – a speech bubble will appear with the answer and the user can provide the correct reply.

Why do you like to code? Because it’s interesting and I can learn and be smart when I grow up.

Do you think other kids should try coding? Yes, so they can be smart.

What advice would you give for kids starting out with Tynker? I thought that coding would be hard in the beginning.

Anna and Ariel’s dad Gerald told us why he thinks coding is so important, saying, “I think the world is changing. We are seeing a lot of new technologies coming in and I see these as the future.” According to him, “If we do not learn the language of the future, then we may not be able to catch up. I’d like them to be prepared for what I believe is going to come in the future.”
