Coding for Kids
Meet our newest Featured Maker, 11-year-old Viktor from Glasgow, Scotland! He likes drawing and coding, and his favorite subject in school is math. And when he grows up, he wants to be a game developer! Viktor talked with us about his experience coding with Tynker:
How did you get introduced to Tynker?
My mum introduced it to me a year ago.
How did you learn to use Tynker?
I learned to code looking at other projects.
Have your coding skills improved since you started using Tynker?
I’ve learned a lot since I started using Tynker. My coding skills keep getting better.
How did you feel when you found out your project had been featured?
I was very excited. I told my friends.
What’s the favorite project you’ve made so far?
My favorite project is the Friday Night Funkin game. It has 91K views.
Where did you get the idea for the project, and how long did it take to complete?
From my favorite game. It took a few days.
How do you get inspiration for your projects?
I like to play video games. I usually get inspiration making remakes of games that exist or just my imagination.
Why do you like to code?
I like Tynker because I can be creative and make whatever I want.
What’s your favorite way to use code?
My favorite code blocks are on-start, forever, and if/then.
What do you do with a project when you’re done with it?
I make sure everything is ok and publish it. Sometimes I fix little things.
What are you planning to make next?
I’m planning to work on some tutorials, work on other projects that I haven’t published yet, and make more games.
What’s the best thing about Tynker?
The best things about Tynker are creating games, animating, and drawing your own things.
How do you think learning to code has prepared you for the future?
I want to become a game developer. Tynker prepares me for my dream job.
Do you think other kids should try coding?
I think kids should start coding because it’s useful and really fun.
What advice would you give to kids starting out with Tynker?
If you don’t know how to do it just look at other projects and watch a tutorial.
Bonus: What’s a fun fact about you?
I’ve been playing chess for 3 years. I have many trophies (Edinburgh Junior Chess Congress the 1st place, Scottish Junior Chess for Kicks the 2nd place, Hamilton Junior Congress the 3rd place). I participated in Delancey UK school’s chess challenge and I qualified for the Megafinal.

I’m happy to see Viktor is interested in coding. Viktor has creative skills and good ideas, so coding is a good way for Viktor to express himself.
What benefits do you think coding has for Viktor?
Coding encourages the development of logical thinking and problem-solving.
Do you feel that Viktor is better prepared for the future?
I think coding skills will help him in the future. Viktor wants to be a game developer. Tynker is preparing Viktor for his dream job.
