Meet our newest Featured Maker, 7th grader Cristina from Costa Rica! When she grows up, she’d like to make movies. Cool! As for now, she likes playing video games like Tetris. Cristina recently spoke with us about her experience coding with Tynker:
How did you hear about Tynker?
My mom showed me, and I’ve been coding for two years!
How did you learn to use Tynker?
I just started from the beginning and then began intermediate courses!
Have your coding skills improved since you started using Tynker?
They’ve improved a lot! I can use variables now!
How did you feel when you found out your project had been featured?
Excited! It was a total surprise for me!
How do you get inspiration for your projects?
Usually from my imagination!
Why do you like to code?
Because it’s fun!
What do you do with a project when you’re done with it?
I ask my mom if I can publish it first, and then I publish it!
What are you planning to make next?
A project where I can make Codey have a great adventure!
What’s the best thing about Tynker?
It’s super easy to learn!
Do you think learning to code has prepared you for the future?
It will help me if I would like to become an animator!
Do you think other kids should try coding?
Yeah, definitely, because you can be so creative on Tynker!
What advice would you give to kids starting out with Tynker?
Try everything and don’t miss anything!

I am very proud! She has learned so much about resilience. She doesn’t give up!
How do you support her coding endeavors?
I’m a software engineer, so I try to teach her more about things like logic, math, and any new challenges!
What benefits do you think coding has for her?
Along with coding, it will help her with her English and reading and just learning in general.
Do you feel that Cristina is better prepared for the future?
Yes, definitely, especially if this is something that she wants to continue to dedicate a lot of time to. It will help her choose what she would like to learn in the future.
