Curiosity Led Bianca To Begin Coding!

Ten-year-old Bianca lives in Naples, Florida. She’s in 5th grade and loves horseback riding and singing. We spoke with her to find out how she started coding with Tynker, and what she likes about it!

What do you want to be when you grow up? I don’t know yet, but maybe a singer or a trainer for horses.

How did you get introduced to coding? I saw something on Facebook with a talking rabbit and I wanted to know how they made it. I was curious about it and started asking about coding, so my mom found the app and I started doing it. I’ve been using Tynker for six months.

Do you look at the Tynker community projects? Yeah. I like to see how they added music, and I look at how they coded to see how they did it. Sometimes I get inspired by it.

What’s your favorite feature in Tynker? I like that it allows you to make your own projects and publish them, and that you can be really creative with it.

What is your favorite thing you’ve made? Probably the potato pet game. My sister showed me the techniques and I started to experiment with some of it.

What are you planning to make next? Well, I’m trying to do something called Trotty Blaze. I’m trying to make Blaze, the horse that we lease, do an obstacle course.

Why do you like to code? I like to code because it’s interesting and fun, and it gives you lots of creative abilities to make new stuff.

Do you think other kids should try coding? Sure! It’s a good way to see new things in technology, and try new things.

What advice would you give for kids starting out with Tynker? They should try and experiment with new things. It’s okay to mess up, because I did that once. I was a little bit nervous and didn’t really know how to do it.

We also chatted with Bianca’s sister, Isabel. Their mom Danielle is happy her girls are learning and loving coding! She told us, “Hopefully it’ll stick with them and they’ll know, okay, this is how the machine works, this is how the game I’m playing works. It gives them that deeper understanding, which I think is important too.”
