Coding for Kids
Father’s Day is a special time to celebrate all the fathers and other role models in your kids’ or students’ lives. It’s a day for thanking those adults who have helped them grow and become who they want to be. There’s no better way to celebrate Father’s Day than by coding a game to build one of dad’s favorite foods—burgers! Once kids follow an easy tutorial to build the game, Burger Bonanza becomes a fun activity they can play with their dad to create the ideal burger.
Kids will develop debugging and logical reasoning skills as they create their game! Using programming concepts such as conditional logic, loops and variables, they’ll design the game play where the bottom burger bun collects the right toppings as it moves. Then, they’ll add code to customize the burger toppings, background music, and greeting. As they complete coding their game, kids will see a direct relationship between their code and how the game functions.
Your kids or students can personalize their projects by customizing their toppings, adding background music, and modifying their code. They can even write a personal message for dad or another role model. Then, they can take a screenshot and easily send their project image as a Father’s Day gift!
Teachers, to assign Burger Bonanza to your class:
1. Set up a classroom in your Tynker account and add your students.
2. Click on the “Lessons” tab in your classroom dashboard.
3. The project will be available under “Weekly/Special” Projects – click the “Assign to Class” button.
After your class has finished, don’t forget to create a class showcase of all your students’ projects to share with parents!
Parents, to give this project to your child:
1. Have your child log into his/her account.
2. They can find Burger Bonanza on their dashboard. The project will be the first card in their “Projects and Puzzles” section.
