Ariel Uses Coding as a Stress Reliever!

Ariel is twelve years old and enjoys cycling, reading, and programming. She lives in Singapore with her sister Anna, who we also interviewed! We’ve enjoyed playing her projects, so we spoke with Ariel to learn more about her and why she likes coding with Tynker.

What do you want to be when you grow up? I’m thinking of being a lawyer because I enjoy arguing for rights.

How did you get introduced to Tynker? When I was young, my brother enjoyed programming games for me to play and I was curious as to how he coded the games. About two years, my father taught me how to program. My father found the Tynker app and introduced it to me and my siblings.

Do you look at the Tynker community projects? Sometimes I look there to get inspiration when I don’t know what to make.

What are you planning to make next? I’m currently making a martial arts game that involves two Actors dueling.

Why do you like to code? Because I find it fun and a way to relieve stress. I do it in my free time.

Do you think other kids should try coding? I think so if they have the time for it. I think they would find it enjoyable.

What advice would you give for kids starting out with Tynker? I would ask them to start on the basics and look at other people’s programs before they start.

Gerald, Ariel and Anna’s father, believes coding is highly beneficial for kids. He told us, I’m a doctor, a family physician – but I’m not exactly a coder.” He said he knows a bit of coding, but “not enough to create an app, so I depend on an app like Tynker to get my daughter interested in coding.”

We’re glad coding has been a great experience for you, Ariel! Thanks for speaking with us, Gerald, Anna, and Ariel. We look forward to what you come up with next, Ariel – let us know if you need any help with your martial arts project!
