Meet Lindsay, a Coder and Future Teacher
Lindsay is an 11-year-old who lives in Zimmerman, Minnesota and loves coding with Tynker. Learn more about Lindsay!
What are your hobbies? I play basketball and I do the iPad. I also watch YouTube.
What do you want to be when you grow up? I want to teach Kindergarten because the kids are really cute.
How did you learn how to code? My dad showed us the Tynker app, and then we did the tutorials on there.
What’s your favorite project you’ve made? I’ve made a few games. One of them’s kind of like a Flappy Bird thing. It’s called “Monster Jump.”
Do you ever look at the Tynker community projects? Yeah, I do that a lot. They’re really cool. I like playing them.
Why do you like coding? I think it’s fun when it turns out. I think it looks cool when you can see that you made it. I like showing my friends the games I make when they come over.
Do you think other kids should try coding? Yeah because it’s really fun and it’s a good experience. I think they would have a lot of fun with it like I do.
What advice would you give to other kids who are starting out with coding? Try to do the tutorials first. I learned how to do the basics with it and then I started experimenting with some of the code blocks that I didn’t know what they meant. So I started experimenting with that and then I got pretty good at it.
A fun fact about Lindsay: Lindsay has many snakes outside her house and loves to catch them! She hopes to get a pet corn snake when she is older.
Lindsay’s parents Sam and Nicole love that Lindsay has been learning to code with Tynker. Sam says he thinks coding is a really important skill for kids to have: “It just seems that that’s the way the world’s going. I think a lot of the jobs are going to be programming jobs in the future, especially in the US.”
It’s an added bonus that Lindsay really enjoys learning to code and is able to transform her iPad time into coding time. Sam says, “Kids these days want to spend all their time on the iPad anyway, so you might as well push them to do something more productive with that time.” According to Nicole, Lindsay is very proud of what she’s able to make with code and “always gets really excited when she completes a project.”
