Featured Maker: Jocelyn Likes Dancing, Drawing, and Reading!

Meet our newest Featured Maker, 8th grader Jocelyn from Australia! Her favorite subject in school is English. And when she grows up, she wants to be a ballet dancer! Jocelyn talked with us about her experience coding with Tynker:

How did you get introduced to Tynker?

My mom helped me find Tynker!

How did you learn to use Tynker?

I started with the tutorials and then I would look at other people’s projects!

Have your coding skills improved since you started using Tynker?

A lot! I had no idea how to use the broadcast block, but now I do!

How did you feel when you found out your project had been featured?

I was so excited to see my project featured!

What’s your favorite project you’ve made so far?

I like the project that got featured, and I like it because I like dress-up games!

Where did you get the idea for your project?

I probably got the idea from the community, and it probably took me a few days to make it.

How do you get inspiration for your projects?

Sometimes, I just think of something and I’ll make it, or I’ll look at the community!

Why do you like to code?

I like creating things and being able to code makes me appreciate other games as well!

Do you have a favorite code block?

Not really, I think they’re all cool!

What do you do with a project when you’re done with it?

I go over it to make sure nothing’s wrong and everything works, then I’ll publish it!

What’s the best thing about Tynker?

I really like that you can create projects and get feedback!

How do you think learning to code has prepared you for the future?

If I want to be able to create something in the future, Tynker has helped me!

Do you think other kids should try coding?

Yes, I do! I think because it’s such an accomplishment when you create a project, and it’s really useful and makes your brain work!

What advice would you give to kids starting out with Tynker?

Start slow and never give up!

Bonus: What’s a fun fact about you?

I’m home-schooled!

Jocelyn’s mother, Rosita, talked with us about her daughter learning to code with Tynker.

It’s great because it’s portable. She can just grab the iPad and just do it there. And she’s learning at the same time as having fun.

What benefits do you think coding has for her?

I think it helps her with logical and critical thinking. Being logical and making sure that you get every step right helps her slow down and critically think about things.

Do you feel that she’s better prepared for the future?

I do, I feel like she’s honing her more practical and technical skills.

Thank you!

We want to thank Jocelyn and her mother for taking the time to speak with us about coding with Tynker. We can’t wait to see what Jocelyn creates next – HAPPY CODING!
