Featured Maker: Quan Wants to be a Mathematician!

Meet our newest Featured Maker, 4th grader Quan from Vietnam! He likes to watch TV and eat. And his favorite subject is coding! Quan talked with us about his experience coding with Tynker:

How did you get introduced to Tynker?

I found out about Tynker in the 2nd grade.

How did you learn to use Tynker?

I did the courses!

Have your coding skills improved since you started using Tynker?

Yes, definitely!

How did you feel when you found out your project had been featured?

I was excited!

What’s the favorite project you’ve made so far?

Parrot Clicker! I like it because my favorite animal is a parrot!

How long did it take you to make?

It took me about 3 days!

How do you get inspiration for your projects?

I get inspiration from Tynker! Tynker is fun!

Why do you like to code?

Because there are many blocks!

What’s your favorite way to use code?

Change-variable and set-variable!

What do you do with a project when you’re done with it?

I just publish right away!

What’s the best thing about Tynker?

It’s all the coding!

How do you think learning to code has prepared you for the future?

A lot! Because I want to be a mathematician!

Do you think other kids should try coding?

Yes! Coding is fun!

What advice would you give to kids starting out with Tynker?

If they don’t know something, they can ask me!

Bonus: What’s a fun fact about you?

I’m very smart with code!

We spoke with Quan’s dad, Victor, about his son learning to code with Tynker:

He’s using his computer and iPad and downloaded the Tynker application and tried learning from the Tynker community. I saw him start to see some other projects from the community and then he learned how to code and he made his own project.

How do you support his coding endeavors?

I work in information technology. I tried to help him install the Tynker application and access the Tynker website. He loves to play Minecraft, too, so I always support that. If he needs or wants to do something with Minecraft or Tynker I’m glad I could give him my past experience.

What benefits do you think coding has for him?

Maybe he will develop his imagination. Just because he cannot see something with his eyes, doesn’t mean he isn’t thinking with his own brain and he can do it with Tynker. Yeah, it opens his mind for imagination. Otherwise, I think problem-solving. Because sometimes, when you cannot understand why it’s not working, he will try to figure it out.

Do you feel that Quan is better prepared for the future?

Yes, because his favorite subject is mathematics, and I think that coding is more related to math. And also because I’m working in the IT industry, so I know that if he knows something like coding it will be better for his future because he will soon know how the industry affects real life.

Thank you!

We want to thank Quan and his father for taking the time to speak with us about coding with Tynker. We can’t wait to see what Quan creates next – HAPPY CODING!
