Community Highlights: February 23rd to March 1st
This week we saw so many exciting things happening in the Tynker community! Special shout out to Illinois–this week at the ICE (Illinois Computing Educators) Conference, we gave away drones, played Crystal Clash with educators, and met so many people who are passionate about their students’ futures! Becky McDowell, an Illinois educator and Blue Ribbon Educator, was featured on our blog.
Along with the great things happening in Illinois in STEM education, we saw students using Tynker projects to celebrate famous people and learn content knowledge like shapes! And of course, kids from all over are practicing creativity and problem-solving skills through their coding projects. Read on for this week’s highlights from your Tynker community!

Becky McDowell is the K-5 STEM leader at Barrington 220 and a Tynker Blue Ribbon Educator! She inspires her students to develop an innovator’s mindset as they use engineer design practices, computational thinking, and robotics!
We’re thrilled to announce our new Intro to Web Development course! Now kids can learn how to use HTML and CSS to make their own websites. This is a great creative outlet and a way for students to showcase content knowledge!
Featured Maker Conner gets ideas from the Tynker community for his projects and then makes them unique: “I just usually go into the community and just look at games. Whenever I think something is a really cool idea, I don’t copy it, I just make a new game about it–make it my own.”
Featured Maker Jake uses coding to solve problems; he used Tynker to demonstrate knowledge about imperialism! “Our teacher gave us the option of using Tynker to make a project, and I decided, why don’t I make a game out of this or something? I made an entire game where you have to get resources to make your products, and then you trade your products and get money. You can go on expeditions and make trade routes or take the resources, like in imperialism. It’s a fairly sophisticated game; I think that it is very addictive, from what I found from my classmates.”
